The DRC offers a diverse range of tourist attractions across its various provinces, each with its own unique characteristics that can be leveraged for the development of various types of tourism (beach, cultural, leisure, discovery, business, safaris, etc.). A magnificent country boasting enormous and often overlooked natural assets, the DRC presents a variety of landscapes and an extraordinary cultural heritage, shaped by the hundreds of ethnic groups that comprise its population.
Its rich ecosystem boasts a variety of exceptionally beautiful landscapes (savannahs, deep forests, mountains, mangroves, rivers and streams), itself shaped by the diverse climate found in the Congo. It also features unique fauna with numerous species endemic to the country, including several iconic specimens such as the okapi, bonobo, mountain gorilla, lowland gorilla, Congo peafowl, and, until recently, the white rhinoceros.

This remarkable reservoir of flora and fauna is found in the DRC's eight national parks and sixty-three reserves and natural areas, several of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Danger. Most of these protected areas face serious problems (poaching, deforestation, plundering of natural resources, etc.) linked to the unrest the country has experienced over the past fifteen years. All of this makes this country unique in many respects, incredibly beautiful and rich, and with enormous ecotourism potential.
The DRC is the only African country that is among the countries classified as mega-biodiversity countries in the world.
To achieve the financial targets for 2022, the Ministry of Tourism intends to operationalize the following strategies: digitizing the data collection system to enable the identification of those subject to the regulations (hotels, restaurants, tourist sites, etc.); revising the decree classifying hotels and restaurants; organizing joint DGRAD-Service missions; adapting all texts currently being reviewed by various institutions; and creating tourist expansion zones.
Sharing common tourism products with neighboring countries and extending destinations within regional areas are all opportunities to increase existing markets and create new tourism markets in the Great Lakes, SADC, COMESA and ECCAS regions, of which the DRC is a part.
