The birthplace of rumba has given the world a diverse array of musicians, such as rap star Gims, who performed during the Congolese National Day celebrations at Expo 2020 in Dubai.

The capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo has become a hotbed of talented artists, attracting gallery owners and collectors from around the world.

Sculptor and visual artist Alfred Liyolo is a living monument of Congolese culture. He is the only African artist to have been received by the Emperor of Japan. He has exhibited worldwide, from Switzerland to China, from Senegal to South Africa, and has participated in numerous art biennials and international exhibitions. The Liyolo Foundation preserves the artistic and cultural heritage of this great artist, author of countless monumental works, while promoting new artists.

Chéri Samba is one of the most well-known contemporary African artists; his works are featured in the collections of the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris and the MOMA in New York. He was invited to participate in the 1997 Venice Biennale. His paintings, at the crossroads of several pictorial influences, are characterized by often including text in French, English, and Lingala, in the form of commentaries on different facets of daily, social, political, and economic life in Africa, and more broadly on the modern world.

Visual artist Freddy Tsimba is particularly known for his sculptures composed of shell casings collected in conflict zones. These erased silhouettes are most often busts that restore body and existence to the anonymous victims of war. In solidarity with suffering humanity, in the DRC as elsewhere in the world, Freddy Tsimba's work is exhibited in numerous countries around the world.

It is impossible to list all the renowned artists, there are so many. The DRC is a land of art.

This cultural dynamism will soon be reflected in the creation, in the heart of Kinshasa, of a House of African and Afro-descendant Culture intended to lay the foundations for the reappropriation and reconstitution of the national cultural heritage.

The Central African Arts and Culture Center

The center under construction on Triomphal Boulevard in Kinshasa will be inaugurated in late 2023. This project is the result of cooperation between the DRC and China. With an estimated cost of $100 million, the Central African Arts and Culture Center in Kinshasa will be the largest in Central Africa. The project is being built on the concession opposite the Palais du Peuple and a stone's throw from the Stade des Martyres, two major projects also the result of Sino-Congolese cooperation.

The Cultural Centre will have a total built-up area of approximately 37,000 m² and will include a large 2,000-seat theatre, a small 800-seat theatre and a National Arts Institute with a capacity of 2,000 people.
