The EAC Common Market, which comprises Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, was established in 2010 to allow the free movement of goods and people across borders, and is one of the most advanced trading blocs on the continent.<\/p>\n

The admission of the DRC as a full member will increase the annual economic output of the common market by a quarter. <\/p>\n

Following the DRC's accession to the EAC, the budget increase should be a necessity for the development of this sub-regional organization whose combined GDP is around 240 billion $. The East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers has proposed a total budget of 91.6 million $ for the 2022-2023 financial year, substantially identical to that of the previous financial year.<\/p>\n

The entry of the DRC, which produces minerals including copper and cobalt, in high demand for battery-powered vehicles, and diamonds, now means the bloc stretches from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic coast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite its relative success, the EAC common market has suffered from long delays in clearing goods at borders, with governments insisting on controls carried out by several agencies, including revenue authorities, phytosanitary inspectorates, human health, livestock control and forestry departments.<\/p>\n

The DRC is also a member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECAC) and the African Union (AU).<\/p>\n
